Oakbrook Small Group Next Steps – Fall 2008
Leaders,
It’s about that time to begin thinking about next steps for your group……..it’s our hope that ALL of our groups will continue to do life together after we conclude the ‘One Month to Live’ series and finish the semester strong by meeting right up until Christmas.
So what can you do?
-Plan something fun within the first few weeks after the OMTL series ends ….. perhaps it could be themed around something someone in your group might want to do if he/she only had one month to live. Use the night to grow relationally, to relax, to enjoy your circle of community.
-Attend the Beatles concert together on November 9th…….one great idea would be for everyone in the group to bring a friend to the concert and you could all sit together and perhaps go out for dinner or coffee before or after the concert.
-Finish strong ……. pick a 4-session curriculum or a series of individual topics to discuss OR take part in the “Is God….” series that will be starting Nov.16th and covering 4 consecutive Sunday services (we will create discussion outlines for each of these 4 weekend messages).
Here are some curriculum recommendations:
1. “Is God….” series. Is God racist? green? homophobic? tolerant? Weekend series starting Nov. 16th…..discussion outlines will be available following each weekend service.
2. NOOMA videos – www.nooma.com -these short films offer your group an evening of great discussion and cover a variety of topics. We have about 15 NOOMA videos in our library.
3. Visit www.bluefishtv.com – they have created several 4 session studies on a variety of biblical characters including Joseph, Joshua, Nehemiah, Noah, and Mary. We have 3 copies of the Joseph and Joshua studies in our library. Check out their website for ideas…these are high quality videos.
4. Visit www.experienceliquid.com – this is a brand new way to study God’s word called the Liquid method. Liquid videos are modern day parables based on ancient Biblical stories……each Liquid experience is 5 sessions long…..the website will give you an interactive experience on how it works….good stuff.
5. Pick a short N.T. book of the Bible and go through 1 chapter/week. A simple yet effective way to study God’s word together.
Let me know how your group plans to navigate the rest of the semester. Feel free to choose your own study, these are just some recommendations. Remember to first and foremost focus on relationship…..you may want to simply finish the semester by sharing weekly hi’s and low’s together and praying together.
